What were you born to do?
Who were you born to be?
You were born with an “Authentic Purpose” — a place of deep and open authenticity where you feel truly at home, at peace, and blissful.
You are an unrepeatable miracle. There is pain only you can heal, problems only you can solve.
Your Authentic Purpose is a task, a mission, a calling that only you can perform. It is the highest and best use of your unique gifts, talents, passion, values, intrinsic motivation, skills, knowledge, and perspective packaged and leveraged to create value for others.
When you live Authentic Purpose, you experience the highest levels of joy and fulfillment while making the greatest difference for the world.
My purpose journey
I started out as a Wonder Bread and Hostess delivery driver. (That picture on the left is me when I earned the “Employee of the Month” award in April 1999.)
After that I became a delivery driver for a water company, delivering bottled water to convenience stores.
In both of those jobs I worked 12-14 hours a day of hard, physical labor and earned about $35,000 a year.
Can you relate?
But I always knew I was destined for more.
I wanted work to be more about meaning than just making money. I wanted it to serve a bigger purpose than just trading time for money and collecting a paycheck.
The thought that haunted me constantly was, “There has to be something more than just paying bills until I die and looking forward to weekends and retirement.”
But I didn’t know who I really was. I lacked self-awareness and self-confidence.
I had no idea what my talents and genius were.
I was afraid of failure and of making the wrong choices.
I didn’t even know where to start.
But then, something happened…
I started a business
In August of 2004 I started a window cleaning business on the side, while still working as a water delivery driver.
By November of that same year I was earning more money from my business than I was at my full-time job.
I quit my job and I’ve never had another job since.
From that experience I gained the confidence to go out on my own and make a living doing what I enjoyed. The business took off, and, after learning what I wanted to learn from it, I sold it a year-and-a-half later.
Since then I’ve done a lot of things, including:
I discover my bliss in writing
In June of 2006 I started writing for a company for free, creating a daily email and a monthly newsletter for their subscribers. I fell in love with writing and started freelancing, while building my other ventures.
How I discovered my purpose
I’ve discovered my purpose by:
- Being mentored by 7 formal mentors and coaches since 2003 (I’ve invested over $150,000).
- Intense and sustained deep-dive inner work and purpose work.
- Reading hundreds of books (I’ve read a minimum of a book per week since I was a teenager).
- Experimenting with lots of businesses and ventures to figure out my passions and strengths.
My purpose is to help you uncover and unleash the most authentic and powerful version of YOU so you can do the work and make the contribution you were born for.
